1&1 Web Hosting Review
I'm not going to spout out a bunch of technical mumbo jumbo
specifications about the 1and1 web hosting plans. It is a bunch of boring
stuff that most of us would rather ignore anyway. But if anyone is
interested in finding relevance in those technical specifications, feel free to visit
some of the other 1&1 review sites such as the 1and1 hosting review directory, the 1&1
web reviews page and the 1&1 hosting report for more details on those technical
stuff. From my standpoint, I would rather talk about their
support and their ability to satisfy my needs as a non-technical customer.
To set the records straight, I only have domains registered with 1and1.
Those domains, however, are being hosted at hostgator.
My reasons for not completely switching over to 1and1 internet is because I'm
too lazy to do so. Anyway, the number one thing that attracted me to 1and1
was the free private domain registration. I don't have to pay $6.99 or
$10.99 or whatever the price may be that the other hosting companies charge for
private domain registration. The second thing that attracted me to 1and1
internet was its technical support. When I was reviewing 1&1 and was considering registering my
domains with 1and1, I called up tech support to get a feel for their service.
The support was phenomenal and I was convinced to sign on. The tech
support guy was very knowledgeable and was very patient with my questions.
He was very helpful, and guided me through every step of the way in buying a new
domain and also transferring my other domains from the other registrars. I
can honestly say that I was very impressed. This was 2 years ago. I
continue to have my domains registered through 1and1 internet. Another thing that
impressed me was their automatic domain registration process. 1and1 does
this funny deal where they will not renew a domain for more than a year.
However, when it comes time to renew, they send you an email 6 weeks before
expiration to notify you of the impending expiration and to assure you that the
domain will automatically renew on the expired date. The only thing you
need to worry about is that your credit card is up to date! I've had an
experience with a lesser known hosting company where one of my domains was
registered. I had paid them 6 weeks before expiration to extend for
another year. I had assumed that everything was good to go since I got a
confirmation email from them... Not the case. Two months later when the
domain had already expired, the stupid hosting provider removed my sight and I
didn't catch wind of it for days. Unlike 1and1 internet, that
other company had
no live support...just and email address that I had to write several times
before I got any kind of response. They finally got the mess cleared up
and my website was back up and running 2 weeks later. Those were some
frustrating times!! So the moral to the story is to find yourself a
reputable hosting company and registrar. Not having live support is
probably a good sign that the company you're dealing with is just someone in his
garage doing it part-time. That's why I'm going to stick with 1&1 internet
for the long run. Besides the technical support, I believe that
the price for the various 1and1 hosting plans are very reasonable and very competitive
with other web hosting providers. 1and1 will occasionally offer discounts
for their hosting plans and domain registration. You can visit 1and1
directly to obtain some of these discounts. You can also visit some of the
review site where you can find updated 1&1 discount codes or special promotions
for 1&1 signup.
